NEWS: NEW Disney+ Star Wars series featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi Casting for a Young Luke Skywalker

A NEW upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series, featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi, reportedly once again portrayed by Ewan McGregor, appears to be casting for an actor to portray a young Luke Skywalker!

Internet resources have given little away in the way of plot details, however this bit of news looks to give us some insight on when the series is to take place in the Star Wars timeline.

This latest revelation could allow viewers to witness the events following the epic meeting of the characters on Tatooine, as depicted in Star Wars: A New Hope. This also means that viewers may also see Luke’s Uncle Owen Lars make an appearance. While it’s not been confirmed, perhaps actor Joel Edgerton will reprise this role from the prequel trilogy.

Another thought occurred to me that Ewan McGregor is now 48 years old and fourteen years younger than Sir Alec Guinness was back in 1977 when he portrayed the Obi-Wan Kenobi character in the original film. While fourteen years is somewhat significant in terms of aging, with the modern makeup and CGI applications at Disney’s disposal, it makes for an interesting opportunity to blend the aesthetic look of Guinness and McGregor’s interpretation of the character.

As a Star Wars fan from the very beginning, I’m excited to watch this series when it debuts and if the quality of The Mandalorian is any indication of what to expect, we’re all in for a GREAT SHOW!

Written by Hossein Amini, directed by Deborah Chow and starring Ewan McGregor. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will air on Disney+. No release date has yet been announced.
